The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 Cruiser

In this article, you will get to know a little bit more about Sun Odyssey 440, that surprisingly is not like any other boat Jeanneau has launched.

This sailing boat is the new generation in the Sun Odyssey line. In its mid-size yacht category, Sun Odyssey 440 seems to amaze. It’s appropriate and clever design has a flow of harmony and comfort on board. The inventive layout makes the movement on board the Sun Odyssey 440 smooth and effortless. The interior and exterior of the boat marries a balance of a masculine and feminine energy – clean lines and spaciousness add a certain serenity to the design and appearance while making the handling of the boat effortless.

Anyone that has experienced the pleasure of sailing with Jeanneau sailing boats can imagine why another vessel produced by this giant of the yacht building industry is receiving such good reviews and awards. It is worth mentioning that this year, The Sun Odyssey 440 not only got the title of ‘The Best Boat of 2018’ in the USA but was also a winner in ‘European Yacht of the Year 2018’ category – ‘Family Cruiser’. These results only prove that Jeanneau’s goal of designing a boat with which ease and comfort has been achieved. New features of The Sun Odyssey 440 have redefined expectations of future cruising yachts.

Although Sun Odyssey 440 already stands out from other sailing boats in its class, the designer Philippe Briand, created three different layouts for this model. One layout differs with a smaller berth size and shape that is not usual for this type of yacht, but the other two have bigger berth space with a rectangle form, which is, again, not usual for boats this size and allows ‘off-the-shelf sheets’ to be used. A great plus is the spaciousness down-below that allows the natural light from outside to access the inside of the vessel, making it far more welcoming.

Jeanneau definitely did not want to compromise life on the boat while sailing the blue waters, therefore on the deck, there is plenty of space to store the sails, cruising clobbers and at the same time move around freely. The designer, Philippe Briand, has even found a way how to leave shrouds free of obstructions by putting the lower shrouds inboard and the cap shrouds outboard, which makes the side deck refreshingly clearer. At first sight, the most noticeable difference is in the design and features, now allowing sailors to get on from either side of the deck, by simply walking up an ascending slope without stepping onto the settee and then over the coaming.

But as effortless as spending time aboard is, according to experienced sailors, The Sun Odyssey 440 is also a great performer and a highly manoeuvrable sailing boat.
