Wouldn’t it be great if you could embark on a journey that could take you through uncharted territory and pristine waters? The short answer is: you can. Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) isn’t probably the first destination that springs to mind when planning a sailing holiday but it is a remarkable one.
Situated in Southeast Asia, approximately a third of Myanmar’s territory is an uninterrupted 1,200-mile coastline. This is coupled with the fact that the country’s Mergui archipelago has more than 800 unspoiled islands with white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. The islands are isolated from the mainland and as a result, this has provided the ideal conditions within which nature can thrive. Although several islands are uninhabited, the indigenous Moken people (also known as sea gypsies) are scattered throughout the archipelago and subsist on fishing.
Burma Boating was created by a group of sailors who fell in love with Myanmar’s waters during their first trip there and decided to set up a company that would enable them to share their newfound passion with others. Thanks to Burma Boating, clients can charter a yacht and sail independently or else let the expert crew do the sailing instead. It is also worth noting that the company’s yachts are driven by wind power on most days and therefore, the carbon footprint is reduced substantially.
Through this video clip, we can experience the beauty of the Mergui archipelago, the friendly people that inhabit them and the comfortable yachts that the company manages. These beautiful images are interspersed with interviews given by satisfied clients who describe these sailing trips as “incredible” and “unique”. Frankly, we cannot help but agree.
While going on a sailing trip in Myanmar may not be something that everyone can pursue, we believe that is the perfect holiday for those who may be currently researching that memorable once-in-a-lifetime trip.
