Mallorca: Quintessential Mediterranean Bliss

Mallorca has long been known as the playground for beach goers and fun seekers and as frequent visitors will tell you, it never disappoints. But what is it that makes this island so unique, that people want to visit again and again?

We might have our answer in what the island is in the eyes of its visitors. Mallorca is the perfect concoction of azure beaches, sweeping scenery, excellent gastronomy and a rich culture to boot. It offers unforgettable memories for everyone, be it adventure junkies, families in search of tranquillity and couples looking for some of the most romantic spots in Europe. All the senses are appeased on this beautiful Balearic island, the reason, perhaps, why so many leave its shores already planning their next visit.

While the island offers incomparable beauty on land, it is also equally stunning from the sea. Chartering a yacht in Mallorca is, therefore, a must, to explore the coastline and discover coves only accessible by boat. Here at Book2Sail, we can offer our expertise on this, while also pointing you towards our favourite spots on the largest of the Balearic Islands.

Cala Ratjada

Cala Ratjada sits on the closest point to Menorca, making the old capital of Menorca, the Ciutadella, visible on a clear day.  This resort boasts white sandy beaches and beautiful clear seas. If you decide to go ashore, a small walk up to the lighthouse will take you through a protected bird sanctuary where you can get glimpses of migrating birds which are hard to come by anywhere else.

Described as a charming beach resort, Port de Sóller is indeed postcard material. With its sheltered horseshoe bay and green Tramuntana mountains offering spectacular vistas from the sea, it stands to reason that it is a favourite with all the visitors who fall in love with its mix of quaint and up style architecture. Port de Soller is another one of those perfect spots where a yacht charter comes in handy. With variously hidden coves along the coastline, you can find your own sunbathing spot and the chance for some great snorkelling and diving.

Port d’Andratx

Located in the south west of Mallorca, Port d’Andratx was originally a fishing village and still is, supplying restaurants in the area with fresh marine produce. However, the last decades have also seen villas being built up the hills, turning it into a picturesque seaside town, inhabited mostly by the rich and the famous. Stop and dine at one of the many restaurants which dot the coasts and watch the sun go down for an unforgettable, peaceful experience.

The East coast of Mallorca is mostly accessible only by sea, making it one of those rare, unspoiled locations where you can enjoy a quiet swim in the turquoise seas. Admire the Sierra Levant mountains while you cruise along and enjoy the sound the waves make as you cut through them.

Palma Bay

The largest harbour on the island, the busiest but also the richest in things to see and do. Palma itself offers cultural riches should you wish to discover them; the impressive Palau de Almudaina, originally an Islamic fort later converted into the residence for the Mallorcan Monarchs and the cathedral opposite called ‘La Seu’, a dominating landmark in the area, are only 2 of the sights you can visit while ashore. The bay itself extends on either side, flat in the east and hilly to the west. Many arrive in droves to get a taste of the true Mallorca, an enjoyable stay from start to finish.
